Metaphors are Important
Quinn: Here's a bus pass, in case you want to see me.
Rachel: How sweet of you!
Quinn: And I got you a phone, in case you wanted to talk.
Rachel: But...
Quinn: It has unlimited texting, internet, data plans, calling. You know. Casual. And here's a new laptop, with Skype (so we can keep the camera on 24/7, of course) and Facebook and Twitter, and they all have me added. And tumblr, you follow me now.
Rachel: Quinn, I...
Quinn: Do you instagram? You probably instagram. I'll download that app for you in a minute. And then I'll make one, and you can follow me, and we'll take pictures of each other's faces on what we're doing constantly.
Rachel: ....
Quinn: Do you have any of those cat calenders? I can fix them up, and we can write every single day we have time for to talk instantly.
Rachel: ...
Quinn: So we can, you know. Stay in touch. Like everyone is doing.
Rachel: Are you smelling my hair?
If I were using the Faberry Friendship as a guide to how my friendships should be, I am pretty sure I would be very disappointed because I have never had any of these kinds of scenes with my friends.
And I even have a friend that I’ve been told I should get it over and date them already and she never bought me train tickets so we could stay in touch, or rigged the votes to get my elected Prom Queen, even though that is the only thing I’ve ever expressed really wanting.
If these are things that friends do, man, my friends really, really suck.
I mean sure, maybe Kurt should have got in too, but the simple fact of the matter is that her resume reads better and she proved that she had the talent to back up that resume.
Kurt had a great audition, but from everything we saw he would have had a rather limited resume to back that up. While Rachel was the captain of 16 clubs, the lead in the school musical and had showcased her talent by winning every Glee club competition she had been the soloist for, Kurt had a minor role in the school play and we never saw anything that hinted at him having a wide list of extra curriculars outside a brief stint on the football team. Is one great audition enough when someone has seen countless of great auditions. At the end of the day, you need more to back something up.
Yes, it’s unrealistic that Rachel would get Carmen to come to Nationals and watch her perform. But, Glee is a TV show and on the list of unrealistic things it has portrayed, that actually seems more reasonable than some. And the thing is Carmen did come to Nationals. She saw Rachel perform as both the soloist and one of the main group leads and essentially Rachel was a huge part of the Glee club winning Nationals. She impressed Carmen and with an impressive resume also up her sleeve, that guaranteed her a spot at NYADA. That girl worked her ass off, compiled an impressive resume and has the talent to back that up. Suggesting she didn’t deserve a spot is, IMO, absurd.
And yes I would argue she deserved it over Kurt, even though really I think they both should have gotten in
